TimberTech Advanced PVC decking

The only decking we sell that holds a Class A wildfire listing

Advanced PVC has no wood in it at all. No flour, no fibre, nothing organic for water to swell, for mould to feed on, or for a landing ember to find. That is why one of these collections is the strongest fire specification in our decking range — and why it stays roughly thirty degrees cooler underfoot than the composite next to it.

It is also the most expensive decking on our yard. This page tells you when that is worth paying for and when it is not.

Start here

Advanced PVC is the range to ask about inside a fire zone

TimberTech states that select Advanced PVC collections carry an Ignition Resistant designation, a Class A Flame Spread Rating and WUI Compliance — as published on timbertech.com and checked by us on 9 August 2026. Several are backed by California State Fire Marshal listings on the state register, which we host on this site so a plan reviewer can verify them independently.

Those designations apply to particular collections rather than to the range as a whole, so tell us the project address and we will confirm which collections are listed for it before you choose a color.

The problem with wood

Why decking choice matters so much in a fire zone

Wildfire rarely arrives as a wall of flame. It arrives as embers, thousands of them, carried ahead of the front and landing on every horizontal surface. A deck is the largest horizontal surface most homes have, it is attached directly to the structure, and it has gaps between the boards that catch and hold what lands.

Timber decking gives that ember somewhere to go. So does the dry debris in the board gaps. Advanced PVC removes the fuel from the equation entirely — there is no cellulose in the board to ignite, and the polymer is formulated so that surface flame spread stays inside the Class A band on the listed collections.

That is the fire argument. But almost nobody buys a deck because of fire, and the rest of this page is about the reasons they actually do.

Why this material

Zero organic content changes what can go wrong

Composite decking is a blend — wood flour and polymer, wrapped in a protective cap. It is a good product and we sell a lot of it. But the core still contains wood, so the cap has to hold for the life of the deck. Advanced PVC has nothing in it to protect in the first place.

No rot, no mould, no insects

There is no cellulose in the board, so there is nothing for fungus or termites to eat. Cut ends, drilled holes and mitres are as inert as the face.

Roughly 30° cooler underfoot

Cool Touch technology reflects rather than stores heat. On a July afternoon in Riverside that is the difference between a usable deck and a hot one.

Lifetime residential warranty

Verified in the warranty document: lifetime for a residential purchaser, twenty years commercial — and fifty years on fade and stain.

Nothing to sand, stain or seal

No annual maintenance cycle. Soap, water and a brush.

Dimensionally stable when wet

Nothing absorbs, so nothing swells, cups or splits at the fastener after the first wet winter.

The most convincing wood look we stock

Wire-brushed and crosscut grains with multitonal blending — the reason people choose it over composite even where fire is irrelevant.

Every warranty figure on this page was read out of the current TimberTech warranty document, which we host below so you can check it yourself.

Why TimberTech

Anyone can sell PVC board. The listings are the difference

There is plenty of PVC decking on the market. What separates TimberTech is that its collections have been put through California’s own test protocol and entered on the State Fire Marshal’s register — SFM 12-7A-4A, listed by category as decking for the Wildland Urban Interface.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. A manufacturer can commission an ASTM E84 test and print Class A on a brochure. A state listing is a numbered register entry an inspector can pull up independently. When a plan reviewer asks for evidence, the listing number closes the conversation and the brochure does not.

TimberTech also holds ICC-ES and CCRR code compliance reports covering structural use, which is what a building department asks for once the fire question is settled.

The range

Four collections, four different fire answers

Color names below are the current range. The flame spread class on each card is the rating TimberTech publishes for that specific collection (checked 9 August 2026) — not a family-wide claim.

Choosing a collection

The fire listing goes with the collection

One detail catches people out, so it is worth a moment. Advanced PVC is often described as Class A across the board, but TimberTech rates each collection individually: Harvest sits at Class B, while Harvest+ is the Class A tier. Worth confirming the collection, not just the range.

Landmark has a finer point. TimberTech publishes it as Class A, and the underlying state listing is written to apply where the attached exterior wall covering is itself non-combustible or ignition-resistant — so if the house has combustible siding, check with us before you submit.

Near a Wildland Urban Interface line? Tell us before you choose a color. Vintage is the unconditional answer, and we would much rather sort it out with you at the counter than have you find out later.

Fire safety

Built for California’s fire zones

Select TimberTech collections carry an Ignition Resistant designation, a Class A Flame Spread Rating, and WUI (Wildland-Urban Interface) Compliance — making them a smart choice for California fire zones. Ask our team which products meet your local fire code requirements.

Advanced PVC and fire zones: several Advanced PVC collections carry a Class A flame spread rating and WUI compliance, and some also carry an Ignition Resistant designation. Ratings vary by collection, so ask our team which ones apply to your project.

Fire designations shown are TimberTech’s, as published on timbertech.com and checked 9 August 2026. Because a rating applies to a specific collection rather than to the brand as a whole, tell us the project address before you choose a color and we will confirm what is listed for it.

Where it goes

The same board is the right answer for two opposite climates

We sell into everything from the coast to the low desert. Advanced PVC is the collection we reach for when the environment is going to attack the deck rather than just weather it.

Coastal — salt air and damp

Salt spray and near-permanent damp are what kill timber and stress a composite’s cap. With no organic core there is nothing for moisture to reach, so cut ends at a stair nose or a mitre behave the same as the middle of the board.

Inland and desert — heat and UV

At 115°F a dark composite becomes unusable barefoot. Cool Touch is the direct answer, and the fifty-year fade and stain warranty is written for exactly this kind of UV load.

Sizes

Board widths, because this is the question the yard gets asked most

Standard boards run 5.5″ across every collection. Vintage and Legacy also come in a narrow 3.5″ and a wide 7.25″, which is what makes a genuine multi-width deck possible. Mixing widths is a design move most suppliers cannot offer, because they only stock one.

WidthAvailable inWhat it is for
3.5″ narrowVintage, LegacyBorders, picture-frame edges, and the tighter lines in a multi-width field
5.5″ standardEvery collectionThe default board. Most decks are entirely this.
7.25″ wideVintage, LegacyMakes a large deck read as fewer, broader planks — closer to a milled hardwood floor

If you want a true multi-width deck, Vintage is the Advanced PVC collection that supports it — and it is also the unconditional Class A one.
